Trans Am 2020 Season Starts with Online Race

It's been a torturous off-season for any motorsports fan and racer. While health dangers and economic repercussions are looming over everyone. We've been quiet as the start to the 2020 Trans Am season has been in question over the last few months. Mostly because of whether our TA2 Camaro would be ready in time, thanks to a long list of a repairs but also due to a more exciting list of upgrades, thanks to our friends at Fuel Safe, KW Suspension, Red Line Oil, and Winmax USA, who are all lending to making our car more competitive this year. The second holdup to our 2020 season is the same thing that's pushing back every other event around the world: COVID-19. Our March season opener was postponed, then the followup race in April, and now we're crossing our fingers that it doesn't go any further back than Portland in July. But to the likes of Formula 1, NASCAR, IMSA, and IndyCar, Trans Am is implementing a solution.

The 2020 Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli will be kicking off this Saturday in the form of an online race event. No, it's not counting towards the main series points, but it will offer us Trans Am drivers a chance to battle it out with each other in what will surely be a wild race event. The entry list is already 31 entries long, soon to take on Lime Rock via rFactor2. How will I do? No idea, I'm out of practice on my simulator, and I've never driven rFactor 2 before. But you can bet I'll be practicing between now and then.

Of course we'd all rather be at the track, but of course we'd rather everyone stay safe and healthy in these current times. So at least in the motorsports world, we're going to make the best of it by giving the racers a fun opportunity to still compete, while providing fans some highly entertaining racing.

So make sure to tune in this Saturday, March 28th at 1pm PST (4pm ET) for the Trans Am Championship by Pirelli eSports Championship inaugural event. You'll find the live stream broadcast, complete with commentary and camera angles we wish we could achieve in a real life race, on Twitch in this link, or on the Trans Am and SVRA apps.

Word is going round that the many professional sanctioning bodies turning to esports this spring could springboard this concept higher into the mainstream circuits. I also believe it's only a matter of time before esports race events become mainstream, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.

The Parsons Racing team kicked off 2019 with a rough start. A gearbox issue prevented driver Cameron Parsons from qualifying and taking the green flag at the Trans Am West Coast Championship season opener at Thunderhill Raceway. Then in round two at Auto Club Speedway, the team faced more woes with electrical problems that ultimately led to a failing alternator. After missing the qualifying session, Parsons would start the race from the very back of the field in 10th place. New Season, New Car, new series

This year, we're going bigger, faster, and louder. Cameron and the Parsons Racing team are thrilled to announce our entry into the 2019 Trans Am West Coast Championship. Cameron's start in racing was in go karts and eventually grew into racing open wheel formula cars in the Formula Car Challenge series, where he won two season points championships. While the Parsons Racing team continues to support drivers in the Formula Car Challenge series, Cameron will dive into a completely different machine for 2019 - the TA2-class Chevrolet Camaro.

The Trans Am series' TA2 class offers one of the most cost-effective ways to compete at the professional level. Even better, cars in this category churn out approximately 500 horsepower in a lightweight 2,800-pound platform made up of a tube frame chassis and fiberglass body. With the help of a four-speed, H-pattern gearbox, the formula for the Trans Am TA2 class makes for some of the most fun cars to drive and to watch go wheel to wheel.

The team has already begun testing for the season, and is gearing up for the first race taking place at Thunderhill Raceway Park on April 12-14.
